Time flies – as always in Terni – and I’ve got to start making my way back home.

I’ve decided to drive to La Spezia today, 410km further north. With the currently very moderate temperatures and the additional weight of my luggage, I believe this will be a near-full cycle for my batteries today.

As per an unwritten tradition, we all congregate at the same bar we’ve been saying our goodbyes for the last 20 years and have a farewell espresso and cornetto 🙂

Today’s route will take me across a rolling landscape before meeting up with the sea and then skirting the Apennines whilst driving along the sea to La Spezia.

My trip starts with grey clouds and patchy rainfall here and there.

After the first climb...will I make it without too much wasted energy?

Speaking of energy consumption: at this point my average consumption was just above 41Wh/km even with all the hills that had to be crossed.

As every reader of this blog knows: I really like driving along rural single-lane roads. In Italy this can be a truly mixed bag. The surfaces of the roads can go from quite OK to truly horrible – today’s mix was an acceptable sacrifice for the peace and lack of traffic.

I, eventually got to Siena, a stunning old town with a tower and an impressive main square.

Inadvertently, my TWIKE finds its way into the town but I fail to notice the ZTL (Zona Traffico Limitato) and get myself and the TWIKE a beautiful picture by the traffic cameras. (which cost me €70 a month later)

Not much further I see the first wind turbine in Italy for a very long time. I take a picture in order to show everybody here that they indeed do exist in Italy!

At least the weather was getting dramatically better…and warmer! I finally could take off the canopy and enjoy driving along in my little EV.

Pisa, another very nice Italian city – I haven’t been to the city since a very long time. I take a mental note to do that soon!

A little further up we have a dozen km or so of cities like Viareggio and Massa. Nostalgic feelings creep in as I remember the very early nineties when I briefly had an Italian girlfriend and we met here in summer. Carefree days!

Arriving in La Spezia after 401km, I’m at a consumption of 38.6Wh/km and cutting it very finely indeed!

Today’s Hotel – is a real treat. A family took over a car repair shop and lovingly restored to house a quirky and lovable hotel: Colori Del Mag. Every room has a color scheme which is consistent with the keys, parking lots and helping you to find your table in the restaurant!

The owners were super curious and came with all of the family to ask questions and…

Just after this I retire to my room and am sleeping tightly way earlier than expected.
