We stayed up until way after mid-night. I blame the very tasty white wine. 🙂

Our only drive-free day on this year’s TWIKE adventure is filled with feel-good activities and interesting stuff for my daughter.

Exiting the building my uncle lives in, I chuckled at yet again a very Austrian name and the implications it could have if applied to an international – specifically, an English-speaking – environment…

He better not work for an international company :D

This name reminds me of the last names of two Swiss people I’ve met: Mr. Killer and… Mrs. Boner 😀

Today, even TW560 gets some well-deserved rest!

First thing planned for today – after a late breakfast – is visiting Ars Electronica, a super-interesting museum combining cutting-edge technology with art. I’ve visited this museum many, many times since the center was opened and before that the festivals. Today is the day to introduce my youngest daughter to this very important element of popular culture.

This year’s highlight is a 8k 3D projection including the world’s first images of cinematic rendering, a project in corporation with Siemens Healthcare. Super-impressive images & technology. Must see to believe!

Should you ever visit Linz, please consider making the Ars Electronica Center part of your itinerary!

Most of the museum is interactive with technology seamlessly merging with art.

An installation I liked very much was an interactive GIS-information system for the city of Linz. With the help of an oversized stylus and physical artefacts I was able to explore the city I’ve been visiting since I was 2 years old.

My daughter was super-happy with all the stuff to interact with – one section more interesting than the next.

Food: Well, we’re in Austria, right? You cannot go wrong with any choice at a local Gasthaus that offers Hausmannskost. (home-style cooking)

Ahh. Austrian soul food!

After lunch we went up a hill called Pöstlingberg to see Linz from above. Unfortunately, we were too late for a ride on the grotto train which I loved when I was a kid.

More family members arrived that evening to chat, eat and enjoy even more of Austria’s very drinkable white wine – it was yet again after midnight before I got some shut-eye. There are worse fates, I suppose 😉
