Display troubles…

Just after arriving back from my one-day-trip to Feldkirch, TW560’s display started acting strange, showing confusing information. My TWIKE was working fine overall, so it wasn’t any serious problem. I suspected this to be the same problem I experienced during my 2011 trip to India, where challenging roads made a daughter board from TW560’s new controller from Dreifels a.k.a. DFC 3.0, come loose Let’s dive in and fix this problem, shall we? All that needs to be done is push the daughter board firmly back onto its contacts. (newer boards are held back by cable ties). Where is the cable […]

Back to normal – commuting to work

Back to Switzerland after our 2850km trip across northern Europe means going back to work again – I thought i’d take you along on my daily commute to Zurich 🙂 I really like driving to work – i can choose from three different options. Today, you’re going to take the fastest one with me. Check out the alps in the background during most of the drive. (Every day they remind me of the wonderful roads waiting for me and TW560!)

how many roberts do *you* need?

i’ve always wanted to somehow visually show the relative energy our legs can contribute to a TWIKE’s ride vs. the 6kW electric motor – and for how long. finally someone has done it in a beautiful and entertaining way! enjoy…and be sure to answer the question at the end of the video!

TDB2015 – Day6: a dash across cz

another day welcomes us with brilliant sunlight. still stunningly large, our rooms seem even bigger when bathed in sunlight. check out the third room of my already large suite: everything in this hotel is large – even the smaller windows in the lobby seem like they were sourced from a church. on checking out, i was asked if i had seen the minibar policy… no, was my answer, until it was pointed out to me. 🙂 we leave legnica and follow small roads towards the czech border. slowly hills move into view and we’re really looking forward to some less […]

Repairs: when a TWIKE wants to go on and on

Just a few weeks ago, i started to have a special effect when trying to switch TW560 off using the main switch for the controller: it would not react immediately, but slightly later. it was just a minor inconvenience and i meant to write the usual TWIKE-suspects an email regarding their ideas, what could provoke this delay, soon. as always, life is hectic and since dreifels’ controller has an ultra-low consumption sleep mode, which deactivates itself after a definable period of time, i didn’t feel too concerned, when for the first time, i was no longer able to turn off […]

racing TW4 at e-mobility world in friedrichshafen

every year, friedrichshafen hosts a large gathering of rare and old cars at the local exposition halls. a remarkable collection it is, but one part is reserved for alternative and electric propulsion cars. this part is called e-mobility world. this year fine mobile, the TWIKE manufacturer decided to take part and have a large presence there. all TWIKE pilots were invited including access to the halls with their own vehicles. i drove the 100 kms to friedrichshafen in one charge. a very nice drive given the wonderful weather. lake constance, nestled between germany, austria and switzerland is a very nice […]

WAVE India Day9: Bangalore – Tumkur – Chickmagulur

today, we have a short and long stage. the first stage to tumkur technical college with only 70kms is going to be a breeze for us in the TWIKE. nevertheless, jc and i get up early and set off as the first team at about 7am. the road is beautiful and we settle into the european relaxing routine of driving and looking at the sights going by. we’re so much ahead of the schedule that we decide to leave the motorway and drive through tumkur > which turns out to be a brilliant idea – we find a monkey shrine […]
